Anti-Hunters in Maryland Target Black Bear Hunt Again
The success of Maryland’s recent black bear seasons has not stopped anti-hunters from pursing a ban on the activity in the legislature. Earlier this month, S.663 was introduced to reclassify bears nongame mammals, removing the authority of wildlife experts in the state’s Department of Natural Resources from managing the population. Sportsmen’s caucus members are expected to unite to ensure this legislation doesn’t pass, keeping the authority of wild game management within the control of biologists and out of the hands of politicians.

Several groups were credited with working to generate appropriate phone calls into the State House, urging lawmakers to defeat legislation on this locally hot topic.
